The year 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Tania Romualdo, Ambassador of Cabo Verde to China, congratulated the party on the occasion and applauded its "complete victory" in eradicating absolute poverty. 

Speaking during an interview with ChinAfrica, Romualdo emphasized that the achievement is impressive and inseparable from the leadership of CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at the core.

"Although 2020 was a very tough year, the country and its people fought against the common enemy [COVID-19], won the battle in an extraordinary way and still managed to present positive economic growth," she said.  

Under the leadership of the CPC, numerous CPC members and grassroots civil servants were mobilized to work in poverty-stricken rural areas, and their contributions have ensured the success of the poverty alleviation work, Romualdo added. 

China's fight against poverty entered a critical stage after the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012. At the end of 2020, through eight years of hard work, China has lifted all rural poor people out of extreme poverty under the current standard, with 832 counties, 128,000 villages, and nearly 100 million impoverished people shaking off poverty. Xi said China has cultivated a "spirit of poverty alleviation" from the battle against poverty. It comprises the CPC's goals and spirit of the Chinese nation, and reflects patriotism, socialist ideas and Chinese values.
