Learning Acupuncture in South Africa
By Ni Yanshuo  ·2021-05-31

After thousands of years of practice, traditional Chinese medicine has developed into a systematic medical science. It is playing an important role in disease treatment and prevention in China today.

Acupuncture is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine, which is one of the oldest and most commonly used therapies in the world. In many countries, there are clinics that provide acupuncture service to local patients.

Here in Johannesburg, South Africa, a group of local students are studying acupuncture at the Complementary Medicine Department of the University of Johannesburg. The university started to enroll students majoring in traditional Chinese medicine in 2020. So far, there are more than 130 students studying acupuncture at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. According to Hu Zijing, Master's Supervisor at the Department of Complementary Medicine at the university, graduates will be competent to provide quality acupuncture services to the public in South Africa.

Today, we will take you to the Acupuncture Center of the university, where students practice what they learn in the classroom.
