The 15th “Chinese Bridge" Contest Held in South Africa
The South African preliminary competition of the 15th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students was held on May 27, 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa

The South African preliminary competition of the 15th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students was held on May 27, 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa.  
Under the theme of "Dreams Enlighten the Future," the competition attracted 25 students from five Confucius Institutes in South Africa to take part in.  

Jazmin Rae Beaudry, from the Confucius Institute at Stellenbosch University won the first place in the contest which included a writing exam, speech and talent show.  

 
Naomi M.T Mandengeda, a student from the Confucius Institute at Rhodes University, says her dream is to become a wushu coach to teach in China 

Sonya Ruth Cotton from the Confucius Institute at University of Cape Town, Nokuthula Christobel Hedebe from the Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology, and Cara Cleo, also from the Confucius Institute at University of Cape Town, came second in the contest.  

Jazmin Rae Beaudry and Sonya Ruth Cotton will represent South Africa to take part in the global "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students in Beijing. 

The "Chinese Bridge" competition is an annual international event sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). Launched in 2002, it has attracted approximately 600,000 university students from 110 countries to participate.
