Lin said that China pays high attention to the development of China-South Africa relations and remarkable achievements have been made in mutually beneficial cooperation since the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was held in December 2015 in South Africa.

He said that China is South Africa's real friend and reliable partner and stands ready to support the efforts of South Africa in its capacity building, deepening of cooperation in all fields, and building of a more safe and secure, more prosperous and more inclusive country.

He said that the scholarship winners are beneficiaries of the fast growing China-South Africa relations.

He encouraged students to seize the opportunity to study in China to better prepare themselves for the future, and contribute to the development of South Africa and bilateral relations after returning to South Africa.

Ghaleeb Jeppie welcomed Lin to be the new Chinese ambassador to South Africa and thanked the Chinese Government for the valuable learning opportunities offered to South Africa in recent years.

A student representative says that he will take the opportunity to study hard and will contribute to the growth of the bilateral friendly relationship

He said that next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the bilateral ties, and South Africa will enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields including in the education sector.

The Chinese Government started to provide scholarships to South African students in 2003. This year 29 applicants won the scholarship.
