With China-Africa cooperation expanding to a wide range of sectors, from trade, agriculture, finance and health to education, science and technology, the number of Chinese enterprises in Africa has crossed 2,000.

To encourage and acknowledge their contribution to local economic and social development, the China Africa Industrial Forum (CAIF), an organization facilitating China-Africa exchanges and cooperation in diverse fields, and the World Trade Organization Commission for Africa have instituted a yearly event, naming the top 100 Chinese companies in Africa based on criteria of their own.

Started five years ago, the Top 100 Recommended Chinese Enterprises in Africa accolade also looks at the companies?reputation in Africa, their awareness of environmental and cultural protection obligations, corporate social responsibility as well as participation in the Chinese Government's assistance projects in Africa.

The Top 100 Recommended Chinese Enterprises in Africa 2015, announced in Beijing on January 28, were selected from 120 companies. The selectors comprised the African embassies in China, experts and scholars, media and online voters.

The CAIF said the program aims to help Africans better understand Chinese companies and promote the latter's popularity and influence in the African market.

"It not only strengthens the ties between Chinese enterprises and African countries but also boosts the confidence of Chinese enterprises to expand in the African market," said Cheng Zhigang, CAIF Secretary General. "We will continue our work to recommend more reliable and trustworthy Chinese enterprises."
