China to Develop Supersonic Transportation Network
China will develop a supersonic speed hyper-flight transportation network, with a max of 4,000 km per hour, five times faster than airliners

China will develop a supersonic speed hyper-flight transportation network, with a max of 4,000 km per hour, five times faster than airliners.

The plan was announced by China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Wednesday at the Third China (International) Commercial Aerospace Forum held in Wuhan, Hubei province. According to Xinhua News Agency, the hyper-flight network will be a new signature product for China, in addition to aerospace, high-speed rail, and nuclear power. Only a few companies in the world, including American companies HTT and Hyperloop One, are developing a transport system with speeds of more than 1,000 km per hour.

"Hyper-flight is a new field. There is no industry standard to refer to, so we have to create one based on the situation. As for safety, the high speed will not affect passenger health," Mao Kai, technological director of the project, told chinanews.com.

According to experts, the new transport system will be unaffected by weather and does not consume fossil fuel. It can also connect with a city’s subway system, reduce air resistance with a low vacuum environment and supersonic shape, and reduce friction via magnetic suspension.
