Four teams to represent Africa to compete in Huawei Global ICT Competition in May in China

Hawei ICT Competition Southern Africa 2018-19 Award Ceremony was held on March 10 in the Huawei Office Park in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Four teams, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya and Angola, won in the regional final and will take part in the Huawei Global ICT Competition scheduled in May in China.

Under the theme of Connection, Glory and Future, the competition has attracted more than 28,000 students from more than 100 universities and colleges in 11 African countries. A total of 42 students in 14 teams entered the regional final after rounds of competitions.

The finalists gathered and competed in Johannesburg on March 8-9. Teams from South Africa, Ghana, Mauritius and Zambia also won awards.

In his opening remarks, Kevin Chen, Vice President of Huawei Southern Africa Region said that the competition not only connects the company with the academia, but also connects education with ICT, and university students with enterprises' talent demand.

Huawei Vice President Xue Man said that the competition is Huawei's initiative in building up a talent ecology and believed that it will help stimulate students enthusiasm and interest in learning ICT.

Alfred Cheruiyot, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Post Training & Skills Development, Ministry of Education of Kenya, also spoke at the award ceremony. He wished all the participating students well for their future.

The Huawei ICT Competition is a global event for university and college students with ICT background, which is carried out at the national, regional and global levels. An annual event initiated in 2015, it has grown into one of the largest of its kind in the ICT sector in the world.
