Zimbabwe’s Ruling Party Expresses Support for One-China Principle
Zimbabwe’s ruling party ZANU-PF strongly opposed the visit of Nancy Pelosi to China's Taiwan region

Zimbabwe’s ruling party Zimbabwe African National Union - Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) on August 3 strongly opposed the visit of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, to China's Taiwan region, and expressed support for one-China principle.

Zimbabwe stands fully behind the People’s Republic of China in the face of the intrusive, imprudent and provocative visit by Pelosi to China’s Taiwan region, Cde C. Mutsvangwa, Secretary for Informational and Publicity and Spokesperson of the ZANU-PF, said in a statement. It is a basic norm in international relations that there is one China in the world and Taiwan is an integral part of China's territory, he stated.

“Zimbabwe firmly opposes any actions and attempts to revise one-China policy in any form of state interaction,” he said. “Pelosi should desist from hiding behind the cloak of false democratic excuses as she tramples upon China’s quest for indissoluble unity of the people and territory of China’s Taiwan region with those of the Chinese mainland.”

“Efforts, conduct and behavior that offend the one-China principle will inevitably lead to tension. We call on the U.S. to be true and honest to the one-China principle and desist from brewing needless tension through stoking and fanning separatist tendencies in China’s Taiwan region,” he added.

On August 2, in disregard of China's strong opposition and serious representations, Pelosi visited China's Taiwan region. Political parties of various countries expressed strong opposition to the visit, saying it severely violated China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and undermined peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
