People-centred governance philosophy is the key for the Communist Party of China (CPC) to lead the Chinese people to realise the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation, said Qin Xiaoshun, professor at the University of South Africa, at the Seminar on Governance: Exchange and Cooperation held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 1 December.

According to him, the CPC has always attached top priority to people’s well-being, and it will spare no effort in serving the people. “This philosophy is fully reflected in the book Xi Jinping: The Governance of China,” he said. 

China has made a series of achievements in this regard. From the campaign to eradicate absolute poverty throughout China to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) which is well received worldwide, and from the promotion of South-South cooperation to the improvement of global governance, the CPC is leading the Chinese people to realise the Chinese dream. 

In the process of cooperation with other countries, China stresses on win-win results, which can be illustrated by the BRI. “More than 150 countries have joined the initiative. You can see how popular it is worldwide,” said Qin. “The BRI aims to enable the people to benefit from economic development.”

Mondli Hlatshwwayo, professor at the University of Johannesburg, said that during the more than 100 years after its founding, the CPC has never forgotten its original aspiration. Under the leadership of the CPC, the Chinese nation has stood up, become better off, and grown in strength. “This shows that the CPC has never changed its original aspiration of serving the people wholeheartedly,” he said. 

According to him, a strong leadership is the foundation for a country to develop. “The CPC is in the right position to lead China forward,” he added.

For his part, Mahasha Rampedi, editor-in-chief of African Times, highlighted the positive influences of the book Xi Jinping: The Governance of China to the whole world. “This book reflects Chinese President Xi Jinping’s outstanding leadership and broad vision,” he said. “His proposals, such as the Global Development Initiative, Global Civilisation Initiative, Global Security Initiative and the BRI, are promoting the world’s development and global governance.” 

After analysing the world’s economic challenges, various development paths and future prospects, President Xi concluded that the solution lies in strengthening “hard connectivity” in infrastructure, “soft connectivity” through harmonised rules and standards, and people-to-people ties, Rampedi said.

Ni Yanshuo, chief reporter of Africa Bureau of the CICG Centre for Europe and Africa, noted that Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, now in its fourth volume, continues the line of thought describing the issues central to the governance of modern China. President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to the work of poverty alleviation, and put the work high on his agenda of governance. Under his leadership, China not only completely eradicated absolute poverty throughout the whole nation, but also actively supports and assists other developing countries in their efforts to lift people out of poverty, providing valuable Chinese solutions to the international community in poverty alleviation.

More than 40 people attended the seminar, which was sponsored by China International Communications Group (CICG) Centre for Europe and Africa and China International Book Trading Corp.
