Africa CDC Headquarters Phase I Completed
On 11 January, the China-aided Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Headquarters Building Project (Phase I) was officially inaugurated in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. (XINHUA)
 
China, Egypt Hold Joint Folk Concert
On 3 April, artists from China and Egypt staged a folk music concert against the backdrop of the Grand Pyramids in Giza, Egypt. The event was attended by officials and some 600 other people from both countries. (XINHUA)

 Sixty Years of Chinese Medical Aid to Africa
On 27 February, a patient expressed her thanks to a member of the Chinese medical team to Algeria at a hospital in Ain Defla, Algeria. The year 2023 marked the 60th anniversary of the visit of China’s first medical team to Algeria in 1963. Over the past six decades, China has dispatched over 30,000 medical personnel to 76 countries and regions. (XINHUA)

 African Countries Welcome Return of Chinese Tourists
On 11 February, locals received the first outbound tour group from China to Kenya after three years of pandemic-related hiatus at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya. Kenya was among the first African countries to have Chinese tourists back. (XINHUA)

Zambia Commissions Chinese-Built Hydropower Plant
On 24 March, builders of the Kafue Gorge Lower Hydropower Station attended the commissioning ceremony for the station’s fifth generator in Southern Province, Zambia. Following the switching on of the generator, the Chinese-built hydropower plant was officially commissioned. (XINHUA)

 Sixth CIIE Helps to Promote African Products
On 5-10 November, the sixth edition of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) was held in Shanghai, China. Sugarloaf pineapple from Benin made its debut in China at the event. Seven African countries attended the Country Exhibition section of the expo for the first time. (XINHUA)

  China-Funded Prototype Satellites Delivered to Egypt
On 25 June, two China-funded prototype satellites of the MisrSat II satellite project were delivered to Egypt, making Egypt the first African country with the capacity to assemble, integrate and test satellites. (XINHUA)

BRICS Welcomes New Members 
On 22-24 August, the 15th BRICS Summit was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, during which Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were offered to become new members of the BRICS family. (GCIS)

 Forum on Agriculture Held in Hainan 
On 13-15 November, the second Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Agriculture was held in Sanya, Hainan Province in south China. China pledged to help Africa to modernise its agriculture at the forum. (XINHUA)

 Third CAETE Held in Changsha
From 29 June to 2 July, the third China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) was held in Changsha, Hunan Province. The event featured over 100,000 visitors and $10.3 billion worth of deals. (HU FAN)

 African Leaders Participate in BRF 
On 17-18 October, the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) was held in Beijing, which was attended by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other African leaders. (XINHUA)

 G20 Accepts AU as Permanent Member
