The 2024 Taizhou Cultural and Tourism Promotion Conference was held on 12 September in Beijing, the fourth stop of a national promotional activity by an alliance of four counties in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province: Linhai, Wenling, Tiantai, and Xianju. Over 100 participants, including leaders from cultural and tourism department in both Taizhou and Beijing, representatives from Beijing travel agencies, and local media, attended the event. Linhai, a key member of the alliance, took the lead in this promotion as the rotating chair city.

On behalf of Taizhou, Wang Xiaoxiao, deputy mayor of Linhai, extended a warm invitation to the people of Beijing to visit Taizhou. She emphasised Linhai’s status as the first county-level National Historical and Cultural City in Zhejiang Province, highlighting its rich cultural heritage, abundant tourism resources, and excellent ecological environment. In recent years, Linhai has focused on integrating culture and tourism, implementing a number of tourism development projects, and enhancing the overall quality of its tourism offerings. As a result, Linhai has been ranked among China’s top 100 counties in tourism competitiveness for seven consecutive years.

Noting the shift from sightseeing tourism to leisure tourism, Wei Xiaoan, chief expert of the World Tourism Cities Federation, praised Taizhou's potential as a tourism hotspot and emphasised contemporary efforts for the development of the sector. By sharing a rhyme containing place names of Taizhou, he compared Taizhou to a fairyland with promising future.

During the event, Taizhou’s tourism ambassadors showcased the city’s rich cultural and natural resources. The cities of Linhai, Wenling, Tiantai, and Xianju each presented unique tourism offerings through original song and dance performances, captivating both the offline and online audiences. Attendees were also offered a chance to participate in multiple rounds of prize draws, with local gifts from Taizhou awarded to lucky winners, further enhancing the charm of the city among its new fans.

One of the highlights of the promotion was a spectacular performance titled Dialogue Between the North and South Great Walls, which creatively blended the cultural heritage of Linhai’s ancient city with the grandeur of the Great Wall in Beijing. This immersive experience left the audiences in awe, as they witnessed a cultural dialogue across time and space between these two historical landmarks.

In addition, travel planners from Taizhou offered customised travel routes and special discounts tailored to Beijing tourists. These promotions aimed to inspire Beijing residents to visit Taizhou and experience its charm firsthand.

To conclude the event, Yu Yunguo, deputy director of the Taizhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports, hosted the grand prize draw for the top prize - a five-day, all-inclusive luxury tour for two to Taizhou, comprising round-trip airfare, private car services, and accommodations, valued at 16,888 yuan ($2,380). This grand gesture underscored Taizhou's keen interest to welcome Beijing tourists.
