Jin Hongjun, China’s Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, received a live interview with the radio program China News of Guinea-Bissau on the outbreak of the Novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) in China on February 6.

Jin introduced the latest details about the epidemic, the Chinese Government's prevention and control measures and the positive results. Jin said that the Chinese Government always puts the safety of people's lives and health first and has adopted prevention and control measures that go far beyond the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Health Regulations, which is fully recognized by the WHO and many countries. At present, the number of people who have recovered from NCP in China has exceeded the number of deaths, and the mortality rate of confirmed cases is far lower than that of Ebola, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, and H1N1 influenza. Facts have proven that China's prevention and control measures are effective. The Chinese Government and people have the determination, confidence, and ability to win the battle against NCP.

Jin said that Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the WHO, pointed out that the organization does not support or even oppose the travel and trade bans against China. However, certain Western countries have ignored the professional advice of the WHO and announced a comprehensive travel ban on China, which amounts to taking advantage of a difficult situation and is not desirable in international exchanges. Facing an epidemic, the "common enemy" of all people, the international community should adopt the spirit of mutual assistance, strengthen confidence, unite and cooperate, and jointly resist rumors and panic.

Jin emphasized that the Chinese Government attaches great importance to the life and health of all foreign nationals in China, and suggested that citizens from Guinea Bissau in China, especially students, remain calm and do not return to Guinea Bissau for the time being in order to reduce the risk of epidemic spread.
