Solar Plants to Help Cover Electricity Shortage in Burkina Faso

The government of Burkina Faso plans to build five solar power plants so as to save the country from frequent sudden blackouts, an official release said on Wednesday.

According to the project, a 30 MW capacity solar power plant will be built in the capital Ouagadougou.

The remaining solar plants will be built in other main regions across the country to increase electricity provision and reduce costs.

The project will provide additional energy to the grid of SONABEL, Burkina Faso's national electricity company, the release added.

In recent months, Burkina Faso has been experiencing electricity production shortages and frequent electricity blackouts.
