Xinhua News Agency ·2021-08-17 |
Lecturers from technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions in Kenya on August 16 began a Huawei-sponsored course to boost their aptitude in advanced technology.
The training on the latest technology for 25 Kenyan college tutors is part of a collaborative venture between Chinese tech firm Huawei and Kenya's State Department of Vocational and Technical Training that was signed in July.
Huawei said in a statement issued in Nairobi that the tutors were taken through a course on security that is key to safeguarding Kenya's fast-growing digital infrastructure.
"The train the trainer program delivered by Huawei certified trainers will run for ten days and thereafter the lecturers will sit for a globally recognized Huawei certification," said Huawei.
According to the Chinese technology firm, the college tutors who benefit from the training on advanced digital skills are expected to transfer the knowledge to over 1,000 students and prepare them for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Michael Kamau, Huawei ICT Academy Manager of Kenya said the company has prioritized improving digital skills for the country's youth and preparing them for 21st-century careers.
"Huawei is committed to making a positive contribution towards ICT skills development in Kenya and our collaboration with the Ministry of Education will enable more young students at TVET to access the latest digital skills training and certification and increase their ability to apply for opportunities in the ICT field," said Kamau.
He said that the training of tutors on emerging technologies will be followed by the one targeting students in September amid a quest to bridge ICT skills gap in Kenya and hasten the transition to a knowledge-based economy.
So far, Huawei experts have trained and certified lecturers from 51 universities, colleges and vocational training institutions in Kenya under its flagship ICT Academy program.
