Chinese President Xi Jinping made an inspection tour of Xiong’an New Area in north China’s Hebei Province on 10 May. Xi also presided over a meeting on promoting Xiong’an’s high-standard and high-quality construction and development and delivered an important speech. He stressed that the development of Xiong’an New Area has entered a phase when the same importance must be attached to both its large-scale construction and its purpose to relieve Beijing of functions non-essential to its role as the national capital. Establishing the new area in Hebei Province is a major strategic decision made by the Communist Party of China Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core. The seven major tasks put forward by Xi are as follows:
Building a world class, green, modern and smart city.
Building an eco-city with a scenic environment, blue skies, fresh air and clean water.
Developing hi-tech industries, attracting innovative factors and resources, and fostering new drivers for growth.
Offering quality public services and infrastructure, and creating a new urban management model.
Establishing a fast, e ective and green transport network.
Opening wider to the world and creating a new platform for international cooperation.
Pushing for structural and institutional reforms, letting the market play a decisive role in allocating resources, and ensuring that the government fulfills its functions in a better way so as to stimulate market vitality.
