In August, Chinese President Xi Jinping replied to a letter from the faculty and students of the Confucius Institute at the Durban University of Technology in South Africa, encouraging them to learn the Chinese language well, and help to carry forward and deepen the friendship and cooperation between China and South Africa. During his visit to South Africa in March 2013, Xi witnessed the signing of an agreement on the joint establishment of Confucius institutes between China and South Africa.
