Edited by Xia Yuanyuan  ·2016-10-28

Zambia annual inflation fell sharply in October, dropping by 6.4 percentages points, its statistics agency said on Thursday.

The annual inflation declined to 12.5 percent in October from 18.9 percent in September, according to the Central Statistical Office.

John Kalumbi, the director of the statistics agency attributed the significant decline to mainly the full impact of base effect which resulted in a decrease in both food and non-food inflation.

The monthly inflation rate however rose by 0.4 percentage points from 0.1 percent in September to 0.5 percent in October.
