Chinese Foreign Minister:Fighting COVID-19 ‘top priority’ in China-Africa cooperation
China has provided or will provide vaccines to 35 African countries and the African Union Commission.

Helping African countries contain the COVID-19 pandemic and bring their economies back on track is the top priority of China-Africa cooperation, said Wang Yi, China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister, at a press conference in Beijing on March 7 on the sidelines of the Fourth Session of the 13th National People’s Congress.
So far, China has provided nearly 120 batches of emergency anti-epidemic supplies to Africa and sent anti-epidemic medical expert teams to 15 African countries. The country has provided or will provide vaccines to 35 African countries and the African Union Commission. China has started constructing the headquarters for Africa’s Center of Disease Control, and the cooperation mechanism for 30 pairs of Chinese and African hospitals is being promoted, according to Wang.
Wang sees the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation meeting to be held in Senegal this year as a great opportunity to help Africa finally triumph over the epidemic and strengthen its public health governance system.
Wang’s other commitments included supporting Africa to accelerate industrialization and improve its capabilities to develop independently; supporting Africa to accelerate the integration of the continent and its integration into the global economy; and supporting the political settlement of hot issues in Africa to maintain peace and stability on the continent.
The joint efforts of China and Africa in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative and building a closer community with a shared future will surely provide perpetual impetus for the development of Africa, Wang said.
Referring African countries as China’s comrades in arms, brothers, friends and partners, Wang said China-Africa cooperation has undergone great progress over the past two decades. By last year, the trade volume between China and Africa had increased by 20 times and China's direct investment in Africa by 100 times compared to 20 years ago, according to him.
The press conference was held as a conventional part of the annual Two Sessions, where the foreign minister takes questions from the media from home and abroad.
