The Chinese Government has formulated and is carrying out a series of targeted measures to help people out of poverty, with the goal of eliminating absolute poverty by 2020. Statistics show that the impoverished population has been reduced from 98.99 million in 2012 to 16.6 million in 2018.
Mubarak Mugabo, a journalist from Vision Group of Uganda, went to China’s Guizhou Province to investigate poverty alleviation programs last year. He was deeply impressed by the achievements China has made so far.
He said that during the Two Sessions of the National People’s Congress and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, poverty alleviation was mentioned frequently, noting that China attaches great importance to poverty alleviation. He believes that China will surely win the tough battle against poverty by 2020.
