In this episode of ChinAfrica 360, we look at China’s major political event of the year, known as the Two Sessions, or Lianghui in Chinese.
Lianghui is made up of the sessions of National People's Congress (NPC), China’s top legislative body, and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China’s top political advisory body. NPC deputies and the CPPCC National Committee members meet in Beijing to chart the course for the country’s development in all fields in the year ahead. This year, poverty alleviation plan is high on the agenda of Lianghui as China has set the goal of eradicating absolute poverty by 2020.
To shed some light on this important occasion, we asked Tanzanian Ambassador Mbelwa Kairuki and Francis Pelenah Jr., Editor of Liberia Broadcasting System, to share their thoughts on Lianghui.
