A joint proposal on Africa and China working together to fight against COVID-19 was released at an international video conference on April 17 (ZHEJIANG NORMAL UNIVERSITY) 

On April 17, a Joint Proposal on Africa and China Working Together to Fight Against COVID-19 was released online in six languages: Chinese, English, French, Arabic, Swahili and Hausa.

The proposal is endorsed by more than 60 well-known scholars, think tank leaders and media representatives from China and 13 African countries, including South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, Mali, Tanzania, Somalia, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Zambia and Cameroon.

It was released at an international video conference co-hosted by the Africa Institute of South Africa, the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies of Nigeria and the Institute of African Studies at Zhejiang Normal University.

The proposal contains specific suggestions on more effective cooperation between China and Africa in fighting the epidemic.

"We believe 'a friend in need is a friend indeed'. At this moment, the people of China and Africa need more mutual trust, deeper understanding, sincere solidarity and mutual support and cooperation to fight the virus and build a community of human destiny," the proposal says.

It points out that for decades, China and Africa have worked together to help each other. This friendship has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people of China and Africa, and has been strengthened during the fight against epidemics together.
