Ghanaian president urges bold, collective resolve to boost Africa's economic recovery
 Xinhua News Agency ·2021-06-24

Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said on June 23 that Africa's economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic required a bold and collective resolve by all the countries.

Opening a virtual annual meeting of African Development Bank (AfDB), the president stressed that the continent must move steadily in coping with challenges of widespread job losses, starvation, wide fiscal gaps, economic downturn, rising debt levels, and health problems caused by the pandemic.

"The surest path towards stability is one where we abandon half-hearted partnerships, consolidate mutually re-enforcing relationships, and develop new approaches that support self-sustaining economic growth and development," said the president.

He noted that stability and resilience do not happen overnight, "but it will happen gradually as we cultivate our awareness and self-sufficiency, and turning inward is an integral part of this shift."

The president further urged African leaders to resource the AfDB and position it as a catalyst for the continent's economic advancement.
