The Road of China

By Cheng Tianquan

This book reviews the development of the Communist Party of China since its establishment in 1921, explaining how China managed to develop socialism with Chinese characteristics, and what these characteristics are. It systematically sums up China's brilliant achievements since the reform and opening up in the late 1970s, and provides in-depth analysis of the specific basis for these achievements. The book also explores China's experiences during the process of reform and opening up, and the difficulties and challenges that may be encountered by China during its future development, providing a basis for the Party and the state to make decisions.

China in Ten Words

By Yu Hua

Yu Hua is one of China's most acclaimed writers, and the first Chinese writer to win the James Joyce Award. His works have been translated into more than 20 languages. China in Ten Words, his new essay collection, provides a unique, intimate look at the Chinese experience over the last several decades. Framed by 10 phrases common in the Chinese vernacular, the book uses personal stories and astute analysis to lift the curtain on the world's most populous, yet often-misunderstood, nation. "If you think you know China, you will be challenged to think again. If you don't know China, you will be introduced to a country that is unlike anything you have heard from travelers or read about in the news," The Wall Street Journal commented on this book.

Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out

By Mo Yan

Mo Yan is the winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature. The hero of the novel is Ximen Nao, a landowner known for his benevolence to his peasants. His land is confiscated and he is sentenced to death during the Land Reform Movement. He goes to hell, where the king of the underworld allows him to be reborn first as a donkey, then as an ox, a pig, a dog and a monkey - and, finally, as a big-headed boy. His riveting story is a unique and delirious journey that reveals the author's love for a homeland beset by inevitable, political and traditional ills.
