VOL.6 November 2014
Xi Jinping: The Governance of China

Publisher: The Foreign Languages Press

The Foreign Languages Press recently published a book that sheds light on the approach of China's new leadership to governance.

Xi Jinping: The Governance of China was compiled jointly by the State Council Information Office, the Party Literature Research Office of CPC Central Committee and China International Publishing Group (CIPG).

The book is published in 10 editions: simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, English, French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Japanese.

After the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2012, the new CPC Central Committee, with Xi Jinping as the general secretary, set off on a new journey of reform, opening up and modernization. During the course of this new start, Xi made a series of speeches on the governance of China.

The book includes his speeches, talks, questions and answers, written instructions and letters spanning from November 15, 2012 to June 13, 2014 - a total of 79 articles across 18 chapters.

Representing the CPC leadership's concepts and principles of governance, Xi's ideas and assessments have answered both theoretical and practical questions about China's development in this new phase of the country's history.

"Xi Jinping: The Governance of China deals not only with Chinese matters, but with the world at large. It opens a window for global readers to observe and perceive China. Through the book, readers will get a clearer picture of the governance concepts and strategies of China's new central leadership, experience rich and timehonored Chinese history and culture, feel the drastic changes [in] today's China, come to see Chinese people's dreams and pursuits, and further their understanding of China's development concepts and path as well as the country's domestic and foreign policies. In doing so, readers will be rewarded with a more complete, objective and rational understanding of China."

— Cai Mingzhao, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of the State Council Information Office

"This book gives a comprehensive and accurate introduction to Xi Jinping's outlook on philosophy, governance, reform, history and the world, and to his main thoughts on and style of governance. His ideas display historical profundity and international vision that make this book, with its broad views, profound insights and rich contents, very appealing. It is indeed worth reading for all those who are interested in China."

— Zhang Weiwei, Director of the Center for China Development Model Research, Fudan University and Director of the Institute of China Studies, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences

"Since the conclusion of the 18th National Congress of the CPC less than two years ago, great changes have taken place in China. How has China's new leadership brought about such changes? In which direction will it lead China? Many people in China and abroad hope to find answers to these questions by studying the new leadership's ideas on and approach to governance. Now the answers can be found in Xi Jinping: The Governance of China."

— Sun Yeli, a research fellow with the Party Literature Research Office of the CPC Central Committee 58 N
