“Colorful Dream, Common Aspiration,” - that's the theme the Chinese Embassy in South Africa chose for this year's open day on September 17. Each year, South Africans are invited to the embassy to experience Chinese culture. This year the embassy set up the Wall of Dreams where visitors could post cards detailing their dreams, and presented a taichi demonstration along with calligraphy and paper-cutting demonstrations and other Chinese cultural experiences. Local students also shared traditional African songs and dances at the event.
Speaking at the celebration, Chinese Ambassador Tian Xuejun elaborated on the Chinese dream, the South African Dream and individual dreams. He encouraged the almost 200 youth in attendance to believe in the power of dreams and make their contribution to China-South Africa friendship as well as the prosperity and development of the world.
Representatives from participating schools thanked the Chinese embassy for hosting the event for students. They wished the Chinese people realize their dream and said many of their students cherish the dream of going to China in the future and personally experiencing the rapid development of the country.
