Traditional Chinese medicine scientists have devised a new herbal remedy for aplastic anemia, a potentially fatal blood disease. The bone marrow of sufferers stops producing blood platelets and red and white blood cells. The new treatment technology has been proved to significantly reduce patients' risk of infection and bleeding with no side effects. The herbal granules, jointly developed by specialists from 16 medical institutions, is believed to effectively relieve anemia and enhances patients' natural immunity.

 

Illegal Logging Stopped

Ghana

Ghana has issued a new policy to deal with illegal mining and logging which poses a grave environment, health and security risk to the country, according to Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Mike Allen Hammah. Hammah said the policy is to ensure that the industry becomes truly indigenous and self-reliant, with most of its needs serviced locally.

Kenya

Kenya's agriculture sector continued to grow in the second quarter of the financial year 2011-12. Agriculture and forestry grew by 5.2 percent in the second quarter compared to 3 percent in the same quarter of 2010, said the Ministry of Finance of the country.

 

Money Laundering Crackdown

Algeria

Algeria Processing Unit for Financial Intelligence (FIPU) received 600 reports of suspected money laundering operations in the first half of 2011, according to head of the FIPU, Nouredine Hibouche. The official added that the FIPU is one of mechanisms that Algeria has put into effect since the ratification of international treaties related to countering money laundering operations.
