Job Training for Disabled

China

China has issued various occupational qualification certificates to nearly 500,000 citizens living with disability in the past five years, according to the China Disabled Persons' Federation. A total of 3.76 million people with disability nationwide received some forms of vocational or technical trainings during the 2005-10 period. The federation said that it would train another 1.8 million such people in the next five years.

Population Census

Angola

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics is expected to train Angolan staff and provide technical means for its population census scheduled for 2013, the first of its kind in the African country since the civil war ended in 2002, according to the official news agency Angop of Angola. Angola is among the few countries in the world never to conduct a population census; but international organizations estimate the figure at 18.5 million.

Combat Smuggling

Nigeria

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan recently demanded that the Nigeria Customs Service double its efforts in combating the smuggling and proliferation of small arms and light weapons, which had contributed immensely to the security hazards in the country. Jonathan gave the order at the inauguration of the Customs Command and Staff College, accredited by the World Customs Organization to serve as its regional training center for West and Central Africa.
