Olympics Possible

Africa

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge said he would be delighted if an African city bids to host the Olympic Games after 2020. IOC already has six candidates for the 2020 Games. African countries will have to wait for the 2024 Games to have an opportunity to bid for the biggest multi-sport event in the world. Africa is the only continent with the exception of Antarctica not to have been awarded the Olympic Games.

 No Gay Rights

Uganda

Gay rights activists recently condemned the reintroduction before Uganda's parliament of a bill that calls for the death penalty for certain homosexual acts and sparked an international outcry. Frank Mugisha, Director of Sexual Minorities Uganda, voiced disappointment over the revival of the bill. Originally tabled in 2009, the bill calls for "serial offender(s)" to face the death penalty, and proposes jail sentences for family members and landlords who fail to report homosexuals to the authorities.

 Protect Foreign Investors

Kenya

The Kenyan Government said it has taken elaborate measures to ensure the country remains one of the best investment destinations in the East African region. In January, the government announced plans to prioritize partnerships with the private sector when developing major investment projects to leverage on the difficulties encountered when raising funds to finance such projects.
