 Helping Disabled

China

The China Disabled Persons' Federation has released the Sunlight Program, a 10-year development guideline for the country's handicapped population from 2011 to 2020. According to report, production bases particularly for handicapped rural people will be set up nationwide with financial assistance from both central and local governments. Under the plan, a large number of greenhouses will be built for rural families with handicapped members, to help increase their income, with the assistance of companies or cooperatives.

 Foreign Experts

China

Some 81,000 foreign experts were working in Shanghai at the end of 2011. Shanghai has more foreign experts - overseas professionals recognized by a government certificate - than any other cities in China, said Shanghai Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. Certified foreign experts mostly work in the culture, education and research sectors.

 Hepatitis Vaccine

China

China has approved a hepatitis E vaccine, which it claims is the first effective vaccine for the virus. The vaccine, which took 14 years to develop, received the certificate for medicine production in December 2011, according to the State Food and Drug Administration. The country would offer the vaccine to high-risk groups and work with international organizations to introduce it to other countries.

 Mandela Money

South Africa

Nelson Mandela's face will feature on all South Africa's bank notes to honor the former president's role in fighting apartheid, South Africa's President Jacob Zuma said in February. The new notes will be in circulation by the end of the year.
