 Women Summit

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe will host the inaugural Global Power Women Summit in Africa in May. The regional summit will deliberate on issues affecting women's rights, health and empowerment. The summit will compel African heads of state and government to renew and accelerate their commitments in responding to HIV/AIDS with special focus on women.

 Best Investment Destination

Zambia

The world renowned Forbes magazine has described Zambia as one of the most attractive investment destinations in Africa despite a 10-percent reduction in performance at its local bourse, the Times of Zambia reported recently. In its April edition, the Forbes Africa has stated that as Africa's largest copper producer, Zambia is one of the most attractive long-term investment destinations on the continent.

 X-Ray Develops Crops

Rwanda

Agricultural researchers in Rwanda have adapted a technology widely used in the mining sector to analyze the mineral content of food crops such as beans and maize, with a view to developing more nutritious crops. The team, from the Rwandan Agricultural Board, said the idea was inspired by a study published in the Holland-based journal Plant and Soil earlier this year, which noted the use of X-ray fluorescence analysis to determine the mineral content of soil samples.
