➲ China's richest

Hurun Wealth Report, best known for its China Rich List, unveiled the results of research on the consumption habits of China's richest people, saying that Chinese centimillionaires spend 2.5 million yuan ($377,640) every year on average and more than one third of the richest people put their fortune into the real estate market. The research is based on a survey conducted between April and November 2010 among 401 Chinese millionaires, each of them with personal assets of at least 10 million yuan ($1.5 million). The report said 60 percent of the wealthiest people were non-smokers, and 70 percent were male.

➲ Talent needed

China will recruit overseas experts in equipment manufacturing and emerging industries in 2011 to help its economic restructuring process. The government said the country welcomed overseas talent who could help in the technological upgrading of enterprises, the development of modern service industries, the research and development of core technologies and energy saving and emission reduction sectors. The State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs said favorable policies in terms of taxation, insurance, housing, children and spousal settlements, career development and research projects will be worked out to support the talent recruit plan.

➲ PE investment

A pilot scheme dubbed QFLP - Qualified Foreign Limited Partner - modeled after China's Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII) program, has been launched in Shanghai (east China) to allow selected overseas investors to convert foreign currencies into yuan for private equity investment in China. A statement published by the Shanghai government on its website said qualified overseas institutions including pension funds and endowment funds could apply to join the scheme.
