CHEN HONG
In the next five years, I am concerned about China's auto development.
Last year, more than 18 million autos were sold in the Chinese market, up more than 30 percent year on year. The figure also enables China to be the world largest new auto market for successive two years.
However, most Chinese auto enterprises are inadequate in independent innovation capacity with problems such as unreasonable industrial structures and over-consumption of resources. Most of them are at the low end of the international industrial chain. In general, international auto enterprises input 5 to 10 percent of their turnover to research and development. But for most Chinese auto enterprises, the percentage is less than 5 percent.
So, China's auto industry should pay attention to its independent innovation capacity in their future development to increase its core competitiveness. Efforts should be made to intensify research and production of new-energy autos.
