Beijing No.55 Middle School

Beijing No.55 Middle School began recruiting foreign students in 1975. Over the past years, more than 4,000 overseas students from 112 countries have graduated from its international program.

The school features a unique educational system based on Chinese and English language teaching. The Middle Year Program from grades 7 to 10 is available both in Chinese and English. Between grades 11 and 12, the local pre-university program is aimed at international students who will enter Chinese universities, while the International Baccalaureate diploma program, taught in English, targets students planning to attend international universities after graduation.

In addition, the school's "Experiencing China Tour" each semester provides students with opportunities to gain insight into Chinese history and culture by visiting various parts of the country. Past stops include Qingdao, Hainan, Chongqing and Wuhan.

"The aim of the school's quality international education is to nurture global citizens and lifelong learners, to integrate Chinese language and culture learning, and provide as many options for advanced studies as possible," said Wang Jing, Director of the school's international department.

Currently, around 500 foreign students from 60 countries and regions are enrolled in the international program, with more than 10 from African countries, according to the school.
