The painting traditions of yesteryear are now etching into modern thought

Major Schools of Chinese New Year Paintings

> During its peak period of popularity workshops producing New Year Paintings could be found across the nation. The well-known production locations included Yangliuqing in Tianjin and Wuqiang in Hebei Province, north China; Taohuawu, Jiangsu Province, east China; Foshan, Guangdong Province, south China; and Fengxiang, Shaanxi Province, central China; and Mianzhu, Sichuan Province, west China. In the process of its development, the New Year Painting absorbed essences of other local art forms and developed distinctive regional features.

Zhangzhou in Fujian Province: vivid images, exaggerated shapes with red and green as the main color

Fengxiang in Shaanxi Province: bold shapes, concise and plain scenes

Wuqiang in Hebei Province: bright colors, joyous atmosphere

Taohuawu in Jiangsu Province: exquisite style, bright colors and decorative

Foshan in Guangdong Province: bold strokes with red, orange yellow and green as the main colors
