Express Boom
Southern Metropolis Weekly
January 24, 2011
The express delivery industry in China has gone through explosive development in recent years as e-commerce rapidly develops and the volume of online shopping, which requires this delivery method, drastically increases. However, the requirement of starting a business in this industry is still very low. Problems of the emerging industry were revealed to the public recently and included delivery staff randomly stamping on mail packages when sorting, a poor customer service attitude and vicious competition within the industry. The reason for the problems is that private companies in the industry lack human resources, sorting venues and transporting vehicles to meet the requirements of the rapidly developing market.
Regardless of these severe problems, there are solutions, according to Liu Jianxin, Secretary General of the Express Operators Committee of the China International Freight Forwarders Association. He said China Post, the state-owned postal service group with the largest postal network in China, could encourage its express arm, Express Mail Service, to share its resources with private express delivery companies so that they can handle the increase in business volumes.
