BLADE RUNNER: Amputee athlete makes history |
Blade Runner selected
Double-amputee runner Oscar Pistorius was chosen by South Africa's athletics federation to join the world championships held in South Korea this August. Pistorius called the selection a culmination of his dream to compete at the highest level against able-bodied athletes. He was the first amputee athlete to compete at a world championship when he represented South Africa in Daegu, South Korea in the 4x400 meters relay. He runs on J-shaped prosthetics made of black carbon fiber and has been dubbed the "Blade Runner."
Award-Winning Director
Nuominghuar, a young actress and director of the Mongolian ethnic group of China, has won the Best New Director Award at the eighth annual San Diego International Children's Film Festival for her new movie Horizon, which tells a touching story of a Mongolian father and his daughter. Nuominghuar, began her acting career early in 1996 and has been cast in nearly 30 TV series and seven movies. |
