Opposing Child Marriages
Zambia's first lady, Christine Kaseba, has bemoaned the country's high number of child marriages, saying it is unfortunate that the law on defilement is not strict enough, allowing the number of child marriages in the country to increase. Dr. Kaseba said the law must be made more strict as it protects defilers in its current form. She said that girls who are forced to marry early are some of the country's least educated and poorest, and live in rural areas. |
