Cui Yongyuan, a National Committee member of the 12th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, has called on the government to strengthen supervision of genetically modified (GM) crops. Cui said some GM crops are illegally grown on a large scale in some provinces while the government has only approved the production of GM cotton on an experimental basis.
