Issue 18

Dear Traveler

Before I welcome you to our August issue, bursting with amazing tales of luxury South African destinations, I would like to draw your attention to something so important to tourists and yet still so neglected – personal guest attention. Now most hospitality professionals think this applies only to the experience itself, but in fact it starts long before and ends way beyond the actual vacation.

TripAdvisor is becoming increasingly important as a reference for travelers in terms of reviews from other travelers when researching their hotels, airlines, destinations, restaurants and attractions.

Out of sheer curiosity I sometimes scan TripAdvisor to see what travelers have to say about some of the destinations I plan on travelling to and when it gets a 5-star rating, it usually means it deserves it. Like the paradise that is Karkloof Safari Spa, located in Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa.

From the moment of your arrival, as you're whisked away from reception in a private game drive vehicle, you're told to regard Karkloof Safari Spa as your home – everything is at your disposal and everything is included. Nestled in indigenous mist-belt forest and grasslands, your private villa exceeds all expectations.

And the world award-winningspa is a feast for the senses. Built to embrace the natural environment, our world-renowned Karkloof Safari Spa features 17 generous treatment rooms, all with wonderful views over the native bush and surrounding gardens. The eco-design incorporates natural materials, with thatch and living roofs which invite game to graze gracefully in full view.

A few hundred kilometers away lies Johannesburg, or city of Gold, and though it seems a world away, the Palazzo Hotel in the Montecasino complex is just as spectacular, if very different.

Look forward to an indulgent, Italian inspired experience with 5-star pampering, cuisine and service and a fun-filled entertainment and casino complex next door.

And if you're looking for authentic African cuisine, look no further than Moyo, in Melrose Arch, Rosebank, also in Johannesburg.

From Mopane worms to genuine African dishes and stews, Moyo will give you taste of Africa like no other.

I hope you enjoy this issue of Africa Travel so until next time, Bon Voyage!

Jo Kromberg,

Editor
