Founded in 1964, Tianjin Foreign Studies University (TFSU) is distinguished by programs in foreign languages and cultural studies. Besides its main campus in urban Tianjin, TFSU also has a Binhai campus in the coastal area of Tianjin. As one of the eight foreign-language-oriented universities in China, it offers around 30 programs. In addition, the university provides certificate and non-certificate education to students of different educational backgrounds.
Among the nearly 600 faculty members of TFSU, more than 80 percent are MAs or PhDs. So far, there are around 10,000 students studying at TFSU, including over 200 international students from more than 20 countries and regions.
As one of the first institutions in China that offered Chinese courses to foreign students, the College of International Exchange of TFSU, which is responsible for the management and training of overseas students and other related foreign affairs, has 14 professors and associate professors among its 28 faculty members. Furthermore, a number of visiting professors teach at the college as well.
TFSU has established friendly relations with more than 50 universities of 17 countries. Besides devoting itself to international academic exchanges, such as holding international academic conferences and organizing collaborative studies, the university actively offers volunteer translation and interpretation services for some important international events, such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the second Summer Davos Forum and the sixth ASEM Finance Ministers' Meeting.
