Tianjin University of Technology and Education (TUTE) is located in the Hexi District of Tianjin in north China. Covering a wide range of subjects in science, liberal arts, economics and management, TUTE distinguishes itself in engineering and education.
As one of China's first polytechnic normal universities to train advanced technicians and teachers for polytechnic colleges, TUTE has graduated over 30,000 graduates with qualified teaching and technical skills. With post-graduation employment rates of over 93 percent, TUTE graduates have earned the university its reputation as the "cradle of China's polytechnic teachers."
With its teaching model and emphasis on student training, educational philosophy, faculty, teaching instruments and equipment, TUTE cultivates well-rounded students good at analytical thinking and practical skills. The university boasts professors with technical backgrounds and those who at least have excellent technical skills. Extensive teaching and research abilities are also required.
The university actively launches international and regional exchanges and cooperation. As the first educational foreign aid base authorized by the Ministry of Education, TUTE has totally trained 87 education officials from developing countries, 251 vocational teaching staff for 34 developing countries in Africa, South Asia and East Europe, and sent 89 teachers to Ethiopia and Yemen to train more than 8,000 local students.
TUTE set up China's first African Vocational Education Research Center, which focuses on the systematic study of African vocational education. Meanwhile, it is also running the Ethiopia-China Polytechnic College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital. This is the largest Chinese educational foreign aid project to date. As the first university set up on the African continent by China, it aims to train technicians with advanced skills and high-quality teachers in secondary vocational education, responding to the Ethiopian local needs.
