Inner Mongolia University
Located in Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia University (IMU) was founded in 1957 and is the first comprehensive university ever established in a minority region in China.
It currently has four campuses, covering an area of 1.71 million square meters. In 1978, it was awarded the national key comprehensive university by the Ministry of Education.
At present, the university consists of 20 colleges, and one independent department for general education. Quite a complete structure of disciplines and majors has been established, covering such fields as philosophy, history, literature, law, science, engineering, economics, management and argriculture. Two disciplines, Mongolian studies and life sciences, with their distinctive local and ethnic characteristics, enjoy high prestige at home and abroad.
The university has been actively enhancing its exchanges and cooperation with universities and research institutes at home and abroad. It has officially signed agreements of intercollegiate exchanges and cooperation with 20 foreign universities and held 10 international conferences.
Currently, there are over 23,200 students in IMU, among whom more than 360 are international students. Over 3,000 foreign scholars have been to the university for academic exchanges and communication. It has also sent teachers abroad to pursue advanced studies, give lectures, attend international academic conferences and conduct cooperative researches.
