Northeastern University

With an annual enrollment of over 20,000 students, Northeastern University (NEU) is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in northeast China. Founded on April 26, 1923, in Shenyang, capital city of Liaoning Province, NEU occupies an area of 2.03 million square meters.

NEU consists of 13 schools as well as the Graduate School, Qinhuangdao Branch, School of Distance Learning, and School of Continuing Education. Spearheaded by its engineering education, the university also features strong programs in mathematics, physics, chemistry, the arts, business administration, law and education.

It boasts a multi-level educational framework consisting of undergraduate programs, master's programs, doctoral programs, international programs, distance learning programs, adult education programs, and professional training of high-level management personnel. Thirteen centers for post-doctoral studies have also been established.

Being a multi-discipline university with focus on engineering, NEU is proud of its traditional disciplines such as mining, material science, metallurgy and mechanical science. It has also made headway in newly rising and cross-disciplinary programs such as automation, computer science, telecommunication, biological medicine and other high-tech fields, further extending its national influence.

Currently, NEU has set up academic exchange programs with 106 universities and institutes in 22 countries and regions, including the United States, Japan, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Russia. It has strengthened exchanges and cooperation by inviting renowned scholars and professors and sending its staff abroad for further education, giving lectures and cooperative research.

School of International Exchange is responsible for the enrollment, education and management of international students. So far, there are a large number of international students, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and Chinese language students from scores of countries and regions studying in the university. The number of international students is increasing steadily.
