VOL.2 October 2010
Dalian Maritime University

Dalian Maritime University

Located in Dalian, a famous coastal city in northeast China, Dalian Maritime University (DMU) is the only key maritime institution under the Ministry of Transport. It enjoys a high reputation internationally as an excellent center of maritime education and training as recognized by the International Maritime Organization.

The long history of the university can be traced back to 1909, when the Nanyang Institute in Shanghai established a shipping management section. DMU was created in 1953 through the amalgamation of three merchant marine institutions.

DMU has a training dock and over 40 laboratories for teaching, training and researching, which include a full mission ship-handling simulator and an engine room simulator. DMU also owns and operates one ocean-going training vessel of over 10,000 deadweight ton.

Since 1979, DMU has established cooperative relations with more than 30 international renowned maritime institutions, as well as some world famous shipping companies.

The International Education College takes charge of the education and management of overseas students, and ensures the provision of a comfortable study and living environment for this group. DMU began to recruit overseas students in 1955 and to date more than 4,000 overseas students have been educated and trained at DMU.
