
One of the top 10 medical schools in China, China Medical University (CMU) enjoys a history of more than 70 years. CMU started as the Military Medical School and Health School of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army and later merged two local medical schools. Now it occupies a total land area of 549,000 square meters in northeast China's Shenyang city.
CMU has 27 colleges, with 52 disciplines offering doctoral degrees, 64 disciplines offering master's degrees, and 13 disciplines for undergraduates. It has three affiliated general hospitals and one dental hospital with a total of 6,469 beds. Among over 11,000 faculty members, 80 percent are professionals with various specialties. The total number of registered students is around 40,000. Over 400 are international students from more than 40 countries and regions. The library has a collection of more than 1.1 million volumes. It's the northeastern hub of the Chinese Medical Information Network.
CMU has established good exchange and cooperative relations with 66 institutions in Japan, United States, Britain, France, Russia, Canada, Australia, Italy, Denmark and other countries and regions. So far, over 260 internationally famous experts have been given honorary titles by CMU, and its staff have been sent abroad for research and advanced training. Currently, 51 international cooperative projects are in operation. It has started to accept foreign students since 1976.
