VOL.2 November 2010
Liaoning Normal University

Located in Dalian, a beautiful coastal city in northeast China, Liaoning Normal University (LNNU) remains a key institution of higher learning and the center for teacher training in Liaoning Province.

Over 100,000 students have graduated from the university since its founding in 1951. Currently, the university has over 14,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates in its 20 colleges. The university maintains a strong commitment to providing quality education through its efforts in improving teaching and research. With more and more teachers being recruited from regular universities, LNNU (as with most normal universities) has expanded to offer a number of non-education-specific courses and to increase its focus on research.

The university now boasts, amongst others, a Research Institute of Basic Education sponsored by the Ministry of Education, an Ocean Economics and Sustainable Development Center.  Research originating from the university has resulted in 74 Science and Technology Progress Awards, 18 patents, and 190 contracts for technology or service transfer.

Progress was also made in areas of international exchanges and cooperation. LNNU has established a collaborative relationship with 51 universities and research institutions in 14 countries and regions.

Education remains, however, the main focus of the university. Its 10-year plan is "to become the province's largest center for teacher education and serve as a role model for other schools.
