
Located in Changchun City of Jilin Province, Northeast Normal University (NENU) is an institution of higher learning under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor is the Northeast University, the first comprehensive university founded by the Communist Party of China (CPC) in northeast China in 1946, three years before the founding of the People's Republic.
NENU presently comprises 22 schools providing 56 undergraduate programs, and a graduate school, which offers 147 master's degree programs and 78 doctoral degree programs. Currently, 23,887 full-time students are enrolled, including 14,348 undergraduates, 8,822 graduate students, and 717 foreign students. There are 1,413 full-time faculty members, including 369 professors and 446 associate professors.
Facilities include a fast gigabit computer network. Over 21,000 computers are hooked up to the network. Faculty staff and students can have easy access to the Internet anywhere – in classrooms, dormitories or at home. Each year, the university hosts many academic and cultural events including seminars, forums, and speech competitions. Student groups and organizations enrich campus life with colorful activities.
NENU has established cooperation and exchange relations with more than 160 universities and research institutions in over 20 countries. It has hosted more than 30 international and regional academic conferences, and developed many important cooperative research programs.
