
Located in east China's Shanghai Municipality, Fudan University (FU) is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China. Initially known as Fudan Public School, FU is the first institution of higher education independently founded by China in 1905.
With years of development, FU is now one of China's top universities with multiple disciplines covering philosophy, economics, law, education, arts, history, science, engineering, medicine and management. It consists of 28 schools and departments, conferring bachelor's degrees in 70 academic disciplines, master's degrees in 229, and doctoral degrees in 154. There are also 29 research stations that offer postdoctoral fellowships.
With an enrollment of 26,362 full-time students, FU boasts a qualified faculty of over 2,678 full-time teachers and researchers, including 1,400 professors and associate professors, 36 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The university has been an academic destination for oversea students since 1950 when it received foreign students for the first time. It enables foreign students to receive education in diverse fields. In 2009, there were 3,633 foreign students in FU. Scholarships for international students include Chinese Government Scholarship, Shanghai Government Scholarship, Scholarship for Senior Advanced Students, Outstanding Foreign Student Scholarship, and Yiersan Chinese Culture Scholarship.
