East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), originally named East China Institute of Chemical Technology, was founded in 1952. Located in Shanghai Municipality, ECUST is the first single-subject school in China and regarded as the cradle of Chinese chemical engineers. After over half a century's efforts, it has developed into a national key research university with technology as the major subject and a coordinated development of multiple disciplines.
The university now has 15 schools, offering master's degrees in over 100 programs, doctoral degrees in 45 programs, and master's degrees of engineering in 18 programs.
At present, the total number of full-time students has exceeded 25,700, including 7,551 postgraduates for master's degrees, 1,359 Ph.D. candidates and 18,102 undergraduates. Among its 3,594 faculty members, there are two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.
ECUST has been attaching great importance to international cooperation and communication, and has established long-term collaborations with more than 70 universities, enterprises and research institutes abroad. Since the 1950s, thousands of international students from over 80 countries have completed their studies here. Scholarships international students can apply include Chinese Government Scholarship, Shanghai Government Scholarship, and ECUST President Scholarship.
