Located in the northwestern part of Shanghai, one of China's four municipalities directly under the Central Government, Shanghai University (SHU) has beautiful campuses, well-equipped facilities and a first-rate faculty, providing good studying conditions and living environment for students. It is the biggest institution of higher learning run by Shanghai Municipality.
SHU consists of 26 schools, two independent departments and over 100 research institutes, offering 71 undergraduate programs, 176 master programs, 82 doctoral programs and 13 post-doctoral programs.
SHU is closely linked with the local community. The School of Life Sciences is co-founded with the local research institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences. It also has joint graduate programs in literature, economics, and law with the Shanghai branch of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
SHU has established cooperative relationships with 161 universities in over 80 countries and regions, with many notable scholars visiting as professors and honorary professors. Meanwhile, the university has sent many faculty members abroad for training, research and academic exchanges. Currently the university enrolls more than 2,000 foreign students annually. In 2010, a total of 2,783 international students from 114 countries studied in the university.
